56 years ago today, Robin Roberts threw a complete game in a 3-2 victory over the the San Francisco Giants. Roberts gave up 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2. It was Robert’s 234 victory in a Phillies uniform, which leads the Phillies Franchise by a right handed starter. Steve Carlton is the only Phillie to have more victories then Robin Roberts. Robin Roberts also holds the Phillies franchise record for innings pitched (3739.1), complete games (272), and WAR for pitchers (69.7). He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976 and his number 36 was retired in 1962, 1 of only 5 Phillies player’s with their jersey number retired.
