12 years ago today the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 5-4 in overtime of game 1 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Rangers led the Flyers 2-0 after the first period with goals by Brian Leetch and Peter Nedved. The Flyers came back in the 2nd period with 2 goals behind John LeClair and the Rangers added on 1 more with another goal by Peter Nedved to take a 3-2 led going into the 3rd. The 3rd period saw the Flyers take a 4-3 behind John LeClair, his third goal of the game, and Eric Desjardins. The Rangers tied the game with 19 seconds in the 3rd with a goal from Pat Verbeek to send game 1 to overtime. Seven minutes into the first overtime Eric Desjardins scored his 2nd goal of the game to win game 1. Ron Hextall had 22 saves on 26 shots and John LeClair had his first career hat trick.
