Today in Philly Sports – May 31st, 1983 – Philadelphia 76ers sweep the LA Lakers in NBA Finals

34 years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers completed the 4 game sweep of the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals. It was the 3rd NBA Championship in franchise history and the last one that the 76ers have currently won.  Moses Malone won the finals MVP averaging 25.8 points, 18 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks. He led each game in points and rebounds except game 4 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 28 points and Malone only had 24. The 76ers team had two future hall of famers on the roster in Moses Malone and Julius Erving. The 76ers swept a team who ended up having 5 hall of famers on the roster, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bob McAdoo, Jamaal Wilkes, and James Worthy.
